Ground breaking Tri-Series in Mackay to Feature Historic Debuts.
The picturesque Harrup Park in Mackay will host a historic Tri-Series tournament from April 10th to 17th, 2025, showcasing the best of Veterans Cricket with a thrilling international line-up.
For the very first time, the series will feature the newly-formed Australian Over-55s team, the New Zealand Over-55s team, and the debuting Australian Aboriginal Over-50s team. This landmark tournament symbolizes the deepening commitment to providing opportunities and pathways for Veterans Cricketers, while celebrating the diversity and unity within the cricketing community.
The International Tri-Series will run from April 11th to 17th, with the action centred at the premier cricket venue, Harrup Park. This ground breaking event has been in development for over a year, with fruitful collaboration between Veterans Cricket Australia Over-50s Board and the Australian Aboriginal team committee.
A New Era for Veterans Cricket
This Tri-Series marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Veterans Cricket. By featuring both Over-55s teams and the first-ever Australian Aboriginal Over-50s side, the tournament paves the way for expanded participation and fosters an inclusive cricketing environment.
Andrew Knight, Chair of the Veterans Cricket Australia O50's Board, expressed his excitement:
"This Tri-Series is more than just a tournament; it’s a symbol of progress. We're creating meaningful pathways for veterans to continue their cricketing journeys while embracing the unique heritage of the Aboriginal team. We couldn’t be prouder to bring this vision to life in Mackay."
Similarly, the Australian Aboriginal team committee emphasized the historical significance of their team’s inclusion:
"This is a great step forward for Veterans cricket, recognising the talent that exists within Aboriginal cricket and honours our Aboriginal communities. To step onto the international stage as part of this series pays homage to our rich cricketing history, starting with the famous 1868 tour of England, and provides the foundation and inspiration for future generations of Aboriginal cricketers, young and older.”
A Spectacle for Cricket Fans
Fans can expect competitive matches, cultural celebration, and the camaraderie that Veterans Cricket is known for. Harrup Park, with its world-class facilities, is the perfect setting for this landmark event.
The schedule, featuring a round-robin format, promises to captivate audiences:
