Peter Flack passed away last week aged 85. One of cricket’s great personalities, Flacky spent a lifetime giving back to the game he loved.
His service to community cricket has few peers. In a 27 year playing, coaching and administrative career at Coburg Sub-District CC his contribution to the club was recognised with life membership.
Retiring due to ill health, he took on the job of assistant secretary of the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association for 20 years in charge of the Under 15 Craig Shield competition again acknowledged with life membership.
Despite kidney failure requiring dialysis treatment 3 times a week, hearing about veterans cricket he made a comeback to the game at age 69. A tight bowler and more than handy batsman, his form with the Australian Cricket Society was rewarded with selection in the inaugural Australian Over 70s ODI team in 2011 (Cap No: 7) that defeated England at Rupertswood - the birthplace of the Ashes.
As a born again cricketer, Peter Flack represented Victoria at Veterans Championships all around Australia and embarked on 2 Ashes tours and most recently to Samoa.
A long time club delegate, Cricket Victoria recently acknowledged his service to cricket with their 50 years service award during the Boxing Day Test.
A character on and off the field, we will miss his irreverant humour, comradeship and enduring friendship all in the spirit of cricket.
